Biography

Harald Økern came to national attention in 1919 when he placed seventh in the Holmenkollen Nordic combined event. The year after he was Norwegian champion, and in 1922 won the event at Holmenkollen. In 1924 he had a great year, winning both the national championship and Holmenkollen. His fourth place in the Olympic Games was a disappointment for him. In 1925, his last season as a top skier, Økern defended his national championship and placed second at Holmenkollen. He was awarded the Holmenkollen medal in 1924. His nephew Olav Økern competed in cross-country skiing in the 1948 and 1952 games.
