Flatwater canoeist Erich Koschik won the bronze medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics in the C-1 event over 1,000 metres. He also won the German Championship three years in a row from 1934-36. After World War II he joined his team-mate Hans Wedemann in the C-2 and captured the German title over 1,000 metres in 1947 and the following year they won the F-2 title over 10 km. By profession, Koschik was a policeman.
