Jonna Mendes

Jonnea Mendes was an Alpine speed specialist who competed at the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics. She was on the World Cup circuit for nine seasons, from 1997-2006. She recorded 10 top 10 finishes in World Cup events, five in downhill and five in Super-G, with a best finish in downhill of fifth at Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy in January 2003, and repeating that at St. Moritz, Switzerland in December 2003.

Mendes won three US titles, one in downhill in 2004, and the giant slalom in 2001-02. She also won a bronze medal in Super-G at the 2003 World Championships. Mendes first became known internationally when she won silver medals in downhill at the World Junior Championships in 1998 and 1999.

After retiring from racing, Mendes worked for the US Ski Team’s Alpine development team for four years. She then became the recruiting coordinator for the Sun Valley Ski Academy in Sun Valley, Idaho.
