Michaela Dorfmeister

Austrian Alpine skier Michaela Dorfmeister was an all-round skier who had her greatest Olympic year in 2006 at Torino, winning the gold medal in the downhill and super G. At Nagano in 1998 she had won the super G silver medal. At Salt Lake City in 2002 Dorfmeister disappointingly placed fourth in the giant slalom, fifth in the Alpine combined, sixth in the super G, and ninth in the downhill.

In 2001, Dorfmeister was world downhill champion and two years later the super G champion. She added a downhill silver in 1999 and a bronze in the super G. Dorfmeister also won the overall World Cup in 2002, the downhill overall World Cup in 2003 and 2006, the Super-G overall World Cup in 2005 and 2006, and the giant slalom overall World Cup in 2000.

Dorfmeister won 25 World Cup races in total and won seven national titles. She was elected Sportswoman of the Year in 2003 and 2006. The same years she was awarded the Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria. Dorfmeister later became vice-president of the Lower Austrian Ski Association.
