Cara-Beth Burnside

Cara-Beth Burnside, nicknamed “CB,” was runner-up at the 1995 World Championships in halfpipe and was a medal favorite at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. Unfortunately, she just missed the podium, placing fourth. She was second in the 1995 World Cup standings, and then won the World Cup title in 1996.

Burnside won multiple competitions in snowboarding and skateboarding, including the 1998 Winter X Games halfpipe and the 2003 Summer X Games skateboard vert event. She was the first woman to win gold medals at both the Summer and Winter X Games. She also won titles at the Grand Prix Final, the Vans Triple Crown, the All Girl Skate Jam, the Slam City Jam, and the Soul Bowl. Burnside actually went to U Cal Davis on a soccer (football) scholarship.

Later in her career she became more known for her skateboarding than snowboarding. In 2005 Burnside co-founded the Action Sports Alliance, which organizes women’s professional skateboarding events.
