Sondra Van Ert was an Alpine snowboarder who competed at the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics. She started out as a skier and finished third at the 1984 US Championships in downhill but later switched to snowboarding while she was in college at the University of Utah.
Older than your usual snowboarder, Van Ert finished third in giant slalom and slalom at the 1996 World Championships, and then in 1997 won the Worlds in giant slalom. She added a GS bronze at the 1999 Worlds. She competed at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games when she was almost 38-years-old.
Van Ert and her family settled near Sun Valley where she owned and operated Baldy Sports, a second-hand sports supply store.
