Jim Moran was on the US freestyle ski team from 1993-98, eventually competing in moguls at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. He was initially not named to the USA team for Nagano, but petitioned the USOC and was awarded his spot in an arbitration hearing. Moran was a two-time World Cup champion in moguls, and was ranked fifth in the world in 1999 in big mountain skiing.
Unfortunately, in February 1999, he fell off a steep cliff in the US Freeskiing Open and sustained a serious head injury. He was in a coma for three weeks, and had partial paralysis, but was fortunate to recover fully, although it ended his competitive career. Moran finalized his degree from the University of Utah in 2008, and later settled in the Salt Lake City area, working in various sales positions, especially in telecommunications.
