Flatwater canoeist Walter Schuur came fourth at the 1936 Berlin Olympics with his partner Christian Holzenberg in the C-2 over 10 km. Two years later they won the bronze medal at the World Championships. They won the German national title over 1,000 metres in 1935 and the 10 km title three years in a row from 1935-37.
