Bill Demong

Bill Demong was a Nordic combined skier who competed at five consecutive Winter Olympics, from 1998 to 2014. The highlight of his career was winning the Olympic large hill gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, adding a silver medal in the team event at those Games. He was also the first American to win a World Championship gold, taking the title in 2009 in the large hill event. In all, he won four medals at the World Championships, adding a silver in the Gundersen in 2007, and a bronze in 2009 normal hill and 2013 team.

Demong learned to ski at the New York State Education Foundation (NYSEF) program and attended high school in Lake Placid at the National Sports Academy. He competed on the World Cup circuit from 1997-2015, winning nine World Cup events, with 20 podium finishes. After the medal ceremony for the 2010 Olympic large hill, Demong proposed to his girlfriend, Katie Koczynski, and they married later that summer.
