There was no change in the Olympic mountain biking program as the men and women both contested a cross-country mountain bike event. The men raced over 43.3 km while the women’s race was 31.3 km in length. Mountain biking was held at the Parnithi Mountain Bike Centre. The events were won by Norway’s Gunn Rita Dahle-Flesjå and Frenchman Julien Absalon. Absalon would return in 2008 and defend his gold medal in men’s mountain biking.
