In the 1984 biathlon events, the targets were changed to self-indicating targets. They were self-indicating in that they flipped from black to white when hit, giving the biathlete as well as the spectators instant visual feedback for each shot fired. The program was the same in 1984, with the standard 20 km distance, a 10 km sprint event, and a 4x10 km relay.
