Mountain biking was conducted on special courses built especially for the Olympics. Men and women again contested a cross-country mountain bike event. The courses were the shortest yet at the Olympics, with the men’s event covering 35.6 km and the women’s was over 26.7 km. France’s Julien Absalon defended his men’s gold medal, while German Sabine Spitz won the women’s title.
