Polo has been on the Olympic Program in 1900, 1908, 1920, 1924, and 1936. The 1920 Olympic polo tournament took place at the Wellingtonrenbaan in Ostende, on the Belgian coast, quite some distance from Antwerp. The Wellington Hippodrome is a horse racing facility built in 1883 and renovated in 2011. As of 2014 it still contests horse racing and also is a concert venue. In 2005, four holes of a nine-hole golf course were built on the infield of the hippodrome.
Four nations competed in 1920 with Great Britain winning the gold medal with victories over Belgium, and then defeating Spain, 13-11, in the final.
