A preliminary Organizing Committee, headed by Anto Sučić, was appointed on 13 July 1978. The Executive Board was appointed on 15 July 1979 and the original committee was founded in April 1980. The committee was disbanded right after the Games. The Executive Board became the legal successor and held its last session on 1 May 1985.
