The French martial arts of savate and canne de combat have appeared at the Olympic Games only once, at Paris 1924, both as demonstration events.
Both disciplines are currently governed by the Fédération Internationale de Savate (FISav), which was founded on 23 March 1985. Also known by its English name, International Savate Federation, the organization has 63 member countries as of January 2026. FISav’s headquarters is located in Thiais, France, and its President since 2010 has been France’s Julie Gabriel.
A member of the Alliance of Independent Recognized Members of Sport (AIMS), FISav has organized World Championships for the disciplines of savate assaut, savate combat, and canne de combat since the first decade of the 2000s.
