Bantamweight, Greco-Roman (≤58 kilograms), Men

This was the first time a class below 60 kg was held at the Olympics in Greco-Roman. At the 1922 World Championships, Sweden’s Fritiof Svensson had won, with Estonian Eduard Pütsep second. But Svensson moved up in weight and competed in Paris as a featherweight, leaving the favorite role to Pütsep. He did not disappoint, winning all his matches to take the gold medal, with his victory in round four over Finland’s Anselm Ahlfors being decisive. Ahlfors took silver with the bronze going to his countryman, Väinö Ikonen, who had been the 1921 World Champion in this class. Pütsep would later win a silver medal at the 1927 European Championships, and compete at the 1928 Olympics, but with no medals. Ahlfors never competed at a World or European Championship but won the 1925 Nordic Championships in this event.
