The ladies’ singles was quite competitive. Among the players present were Charlotte Cooper, who had won the singles at Wimbledon in 1895-96 and 1898; Marion Jones, who was U.S. Champion in 1899 and 1902; Hélène Prévost, noted to be the best female player in France; and Hedwiga Rozenbaumová of Bohemia, noted to be the second best lady player in Eastern Europe. All the matches were decided in straight sets, with Cooper defeating Jones, and Prévost defeating Rosenbaumová. In the final, Cooper easily prevailed to win the title. Blanche Hillyard, who had comfortably beaten Cooper to win the Wimbledon title the previous week, did not travel to Paris.
