Eight fighters competed in a single-elimination tournament. Korean Yang Dae-Seung was the 1989 and 1991 World Champion, but he did not compete in Barcelona. In fact, oddly, Korea did not have an entrant in this class, which was won by Spain’s José Santolaria, who had been third at the 1991 World Cup. He defeated Iran’s Fariborz Askari in the final, 4-1.
