Skijoring is a primarily Scandinavian sport, in which a person on skis is towed by dogs or horses, or sometimes by a snowmobile. It was held several times at the Nordic Games (1901, 1905, and 1909), which were the early forerunners of the Winter Olympics. In 1928 at St. Moritz, the sport was contested as a demonstration event, with the skiers towed by horses. It was held on a frozen lake, with eight competitors starting in a mass start race. Little else is known of the event and it was never contested again at the Winter Olympics as a demonstration sport.
