Biography

Jan Siemerink was a Dutch tennis player who played professionally from 1989 to 2002. Siemerink achieved a career-best singles ranking of #14 in the world in October 1998, and a doubles ranking of #16 in the world in October 1996. He played on the Dutch Davis Cup team from 1991 to 2001, and after his retirement from playing he captained the team from 2006 to 2016.

Siemerink won six ATP Challenger doubles titles with his first victory coming in July 1990 in Tampere, Finland, with his partner Mark Koevermans. Siemerink also won three ATP Challenger singles titles from February 1991 to November 2000. On the ATP Tour he won four singles titles with wins over Gilad Bloom, Sandon Stolle, Thomas Johansson, and Greg Rusedski. Between July 1991 and May 2000 Siemerink won 10 ATP doubles titles with multiple different partners including Daniel Vacek, Ellis Ferreira, and Leander Paes.

At Grand Slams Siemerink reached the singles quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 1998 where he lost to Goran Ivanišević. In doubles Siemerink made it to two semi-finals, at the 1992 Australian Open and at Wimbledon in 1996. Siemerink competed in the singles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics but lost in the first round on both occasions.
