Kikkan Randall was an American cross-country skier who competed at five Olympic Winter Games (2002-18), and with her teammate, Jessie Diggins, won the first ever gold medal by American cross-country skiiers, in the 2018 team sprint.
Randall made 29 podiums in World Cup racing and won the seasonal World Cup in the sprint in 2011/12, 2012/13, and 2013/14. She won three medals at the World Championships, one of each color, with a gold in the 2013 team sprint. Her silver medal in the 2009 sprint at the Worlds was the first medal ever by a USA cross-country skier. She was a 17-time USA Champion. She also won the 2011 Mount Marathon Race, which had been won in 1975 by her mother, Debbie, and her aunt, Betsy Haines, had won it three times consecutively, from 1979-81. Kikkan Randall was inducted into the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
In 2009 Randal was named to the Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS) athletes’ commission, serving through 2017. In 2018 she was co-opted onto the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as an athlete member, replacing USA hockey player Angela Ruggiero. Randall served on the IOC only until 2021 as she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 and stepped down to focus her efforts on fighting the disease.
