Biography

A provincial-level curler since the early 1990s and a national contender soon after, Carter Rycroft began his career as skip (captain) of his own team (rink) and represented Alberta at the 1998 Canadian Junior Championships. After finding limited success in that position he switched to second and joined Team Kevin Martin in 1999, the last member of what would eventually become Canada’s curling representatives at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Along the way he won the 2000 Alberta Provincial Championships with his new rink and emerged with a 7-2 record from the 2001 Olympic trials. At the 2002 Olympic curling tournament the squad took home a silver medal, losing in the final against the Norwegians. The foursome continued to curl together and won the 2006 Alberta Provincial Championship, but a losing record at the 2005 Olympic trials suggested that the rink needed a shake-up and Martin broke the team up, releasing all of its members from the 2002 Games. Rycroft is now second with the Kevin Koe rink, but has not seen any major success with the team. They attended the 2009 Olympic trials, but were not among the final three lineups in the event.
