Biography

Alexandra Harbold was the daughter of a Hungarian rower who emigrated to Brazil in 1956 and then to the United States in 1962. Harbold competed at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games in K-4. She won three medals at the Pan American Games, with gold in the 1995 K-1 500, silver in the 1991 K-4 500, and bronze in the 1999 K-4 500. She also competed at the 1994 Goodwill Games.

In December 1991 the former Alexandra Bernhart married Michael Harbold, a three-time USA canoeing Olympian. The couple later settled in the Washington, DC area. She studied at Georgetown where she earned degrees in international relations and Latin American studies. Her first name is pronounced Alley-SHAN-drah.
