Dan Schnurrenberger competed in wrestling, gymnastics and football in high school. He later attended the University of Maryland. He competed in both flatwater and whitewater kayaking, placing sixth in K4-10K at the 1982 World Championships, and eighth in the 1979 Whitewater World Championships. He competed at the Worlds in flatwater in 1981-83, and in whitewater in 1979, 1981, 1983. Schnurrenberger once finished third in a Survival of the Fittest contest on NBC’s Sportsworld.
