Born in Singapore, Patricia Galvin was the daughter of John Galvin, an Irish-Catholic Australian of Spanish descent and a multi-millionaire who founded Eastern Mining and Metals. Patricia lived briefly in Singapore and Australia but was an American citizen who attended Sweet Briar College and competed in dressage for the United States at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics. She also won a silver medal at the 1959 Pan American Games in team dressage. Between her two Olympic appearances Galvin married Prince Georges-Henri de la Tour d’Auvergne Lauragais, from a French family with a centuries old noble background. She lived in Paris at the time of her 1964 appearance, but later settled in Santa Barbara, California where she was associated with Canrise Corporation as President.
