Thai politician Bhichai Rattakul was the leader of the Democrat Party from 1982 to 1990 and served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand from 1983 to 1990 and from 1997 to 2000. Rattakul was the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the President of the National Assembly. He chaired the organising committee for the 1998 Asian Games, which were held in Bangkok. For recognition of his work the International Olympic Committee awarded him with the Olympic Order in Silver in 1999.
