Biography

During his career, Ivan Kizimov, one of the best Soviet dressage riders ever, competed at four Olympic Games, three World Championships and five European Championships, medaling in every one of those competitions, except in his last international competition, the 1976 Olympics. At the Olympic Games, Kizimov won two gold medals, individual in 1968 and team in 1972, a team silver in 1968 and team bronze in 1964. Kizimov won the world team title in 1970, team silver in 1974 and individual bronze in 1970 and team bronze in 1966. At the European Championships, Kizimov never won a title, but won two individual silvers (1967, 1969) and an individual bronze (1971) as well as three team silvers (1967, 1971, 1973) and two team bronzes (1965, 1969). Domestically, Kizimov was Soviet champion six times (1967-70, 1972, 1973). After his retirement from sports, Kizimov worked as a dressage coach, as the head coach of Soviet national dressage team.
