Biography

Odirlei Pessoni started his sporting career by playing football for Associação Atlética Francana’s youth team in Brazil before switching to athletics. As an athlete Pessoni won titles in South America but he also had an interest in bobsleighing and eventually joining the Brazilian national team. He was a member of the four-man team that finished in 26th place at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. He continued to train hard for the sport and built equipment in his own garage with support from the Brazilian Ice Sports Confederation. Pessoni returned to the Olympics for the 2018 PyeongChang Games with the four-man team finishing in 23rd place. Sadly Pessoni’s life was cut short when he was killed in a motorcycle accident in March 2021 close to the city of Ibiraci. He was 38-years-old.
