At the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, German equestrian rider Eugen von Lotzbeck won a gold medal with the German dressage team, and finished 11th in the individual competition with Caracalla. Von Lotzbeck was at the time of the Games a Major of the army, stationed at the Cavalry School in Hannover. His father Eugen von Lotzbeck sr. was a very wealthy Bavarian landowner and parliamentarian.
