Judith Arndt

One of the top women’s racers for over a decade, Judith Arndt reached her peak in 2004. That year, she won the UCI Women’s Road World Cup and the world road racing title, and finished second in the Olympic road race. In that latter competition, Arndt crossed the line showing her middle finger to express her discontent with her life partner Petra Roßner unexpectedly being cut from the team – she was fined for the offensive display. The couple later became Gay Games ambassadors.

Arndt had earlier claimed an Olympic bronze in 1996, in the individual pursuit on the track, and participated in five consecutive Olympics from 1996-2012, winning two silvers and one bronze. She has also won five World Championship medals in the time trial (three silvers, two bronze), as well as a bronze in the 2008 road race. Her other wins include four victories in the Gracia Orlová and numerous German titles.

Arndt rode with the following professional teams: Saturn Cycling Team (2001–02), Equipe Nürnberger (2003–05), T-Mobile Women’s Team (2006–07), HTC Highroad Women (2008–11), and finally GreenEdge-AIS (2012), participating in all major road tours for women. In 2001 and 2003, she placed third at the Grande Boucle Féminine Internationale. In total, she won seven road tours – Emakumeen Euskal Bira 2009 and 2012, Tour de l’Aude Cycliste Féminin in 2002 and 2003, and Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour in 2006, 2007 and 2012. After the London Olympics, she emigrated to Australia and moved to Melbourne, dating Anna Wilson.
