Biography

During his career Thai cyclist Somchai Chantarasamrit competed at two Olympic Games and two Asian Games, winning five silver medals at the latter. Chantarasamrit made his Olympic début in 1964 at the Tokyo Games, riding in the team pursuit event on the track. Four years later he competed in the same event at the Mexico City Games, along with the road race. As a track cycling specialist, he had more success at the Asian Games, winning silver in both the 1,600 metres team pursuit and the 4,000 metres team pursuit in 1966 in Bangkok. Four years later Chantarasamrit won three silvers at the 1970 Games, also in Bangkok, medalling in the 1,600 metres mass start, 1,600 metres track time trial, and 4,000 metres team pursuit.
