During the 1930s Belgian cyclist Auguste Garrebeek competed in both road and track events. In 1936 Garrebeek was selected to ride in both disciplines at the Berlin Olympics, where he tied for eighth in the road race with compatriot Armand Putzeys, just over a second behind the winning time. A third Belgian cyclist, Jean-François Van Der Motte, finished two seconds behind his teammates, resulting in Belgium winning bronze in the team race.
