Paul Lindpaintner

Paul Lindpaintner played singles at the 1912 Olympics, but lost his only match in straight sets. Lindpaintner was runner-up at the 1910 German Championships in doubles, partnered by Otto Froitzheim. He made the semi-finals in 1910 invitationals at the Cannes Métropole and the Côte d’Azur Championships. He was a quarter-finalist at the 1908 Wiesbaden Cup, the 1911 Wien Invitational, and the 1912 Austrian Championships.

Lindpaintner was a former German cavalry officer, who was an art dealer with artistocratic connections throughout Europe. His mother, Anica Louise Marie, was a distant relative of the Portuguese premier António de Oliveira Salazar. Lindpaintner traveled extensively during World War II to France, Switzerland, Spain, and Portugal. After World War II the US Art Looting Investigation Unit investigated the theft of art by the Nazis, and although Lindpaintner was investigated, he was never charged with any thefts. His daughter, Victoria Lindpaintner, was a figure skater for Germany at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Winter Olympics.
