Czech-born German tennis player David Prinosil participated in the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. He was eliminated in the first round of the men’s singles but surprisingly won the bronze medal with Marc-Kevin Goellner in the men’s doubles, beating the Dutch pair Jacco Eltingh and Paul Haarhuis in the third-place match. As a result Prinosil and Goellner were awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
At the Sydney Games four years later, Prinosil was again eliminated in the first round of the men’s singles. Partnering Tommy Haas, however, he reached the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles, but lost to the eventual champions Sébastien Lareau and Daniel Nestor from Canada.
Prinosil’s highest rankings were #28 in the singles, and #12 in the doubles, both in 2001. In 1993, he reached the doubles final at the French Open with Goellne, and in 2001 the final of the Australian Open with Byron Black from Zimbabwe. From 1996-2003, Prinosil was a part of the German Davis Cup teams. He later turned to coaching occasionally.
