Tommy Haas was a German tennis player who also received US citizenship in 2010, after living and training for many years in the US at the Bolletieri Academy. He surprisingly reached the final at the 2000 Sydney Olympics but lost to Russian Yevgeny Kafelnikov in five sets and won the silver medal. In the doubles he partnered David Prinosil and they reached the quarter-finals, losing to Canadians Sébastien Lareau and Daniel Nestor.
In 2004 at Athina, Haas lost in singles to Andy Roddick in the second round. In 2002, he reached his highest position in the world ranking at #2. Haas reached the semi-finals at Grand Slams four times – 2009 Wimbledon and 1999, 2002, and 2007 Australian Open; and added another four appearances in Grand Slam quarter-finals. In 2001, he won the Tennis Masters Series in Stuttgart. In total, he won 15 ATP tournaments.
Haas began a relationship with US actress Sara Foster in 2006 and they raised two daughters while residing in Los Angeles. In 2016 – two years ahead of his retirement – he became tournament director of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 tournament. Haas was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
