Ivano Maffei is a former Italian road cyclist. In his youth,1976, he was Junior World Champion in the team time trial in Liège, along with Corrado Donadio, Gianni Giacomini and Alessandro Primavera.
As an amateur, among other victories, Maffei won the general classification at the Giro della Lunigiana in 1976, the Sporting Grand Prix of Poggio alla Cavalla in 1978, and the Giro del Casentino in 1980 with the G.S. Del Tongo squad. From 1978 to 1981, save for 1980, he participated in the World Championships in the team time trial, finishing sixth in Nürburg in 1978, seventh in Valkenburg in 1979, and fifth in Praha in 1981. In 1979 he took gold at the 1979 Mediterranean Games, with teammates Mauro De Pellegrin, Alberto Minetti and Giacomini.
After the appearance at the Moskva Olympics and another year as an amateur, Maffei turned pro in 1982 with the Del Tongo squad but had little success and, at the end of 1983, at only 25, ended his cycling career.
