Austrian track cyclist Kurt Nemetz partnered Erich Welt in the 2,000 metres tandem sprint at the 1948 London Olympics, and they placed ninth out of ten starters. Four years later at Helsinki, Nemetz reached the second round of the sprint, and finished 21st in the 1,000 metres time trial. With Walter Bortel Nemetz was eliminated in the second round of the tandem event, and with the Austrian pursuit team he did not advance to the second round as they were 13th in the qualification round. Nemetz won the national sprint title in 1951 and 1952.
