Nicknamed “Bonga” for his dribbling and great ball handling skills, Guy Verhoeven was also a pure product of his club Royal Beerschot THC. He was the linchpin of the Beerschot team for many years before becoming their coach for seven years. Verhoeven was honored with 18 international caps for the national team and competed at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He used the free time he had left from his military service to devote himself to hockey and other sports, as Verhoeven was also a talented tennis and squash player. For many years, Verhoeven was a salesman for vending machines, but later worked selling sports equipment, mostly for Fred Perry Clothing.
