George Powell was a member of Bellerive Country Club, which was in St. Louis. It opened in 1897, and actually appears to have been named the St. Louis Field Club until 1910 when it was renamed Bellerive. It is best known as the site of the 1965 US Open Golf Championship, won by Gary Player.
Powell came to St. Louis from Baltimore in 1884. He worked for Connor Brothers from 1884-1900 and became a partner in the firm in 1900. He later established Powell & O’Rourke, of which he was the senior partner.
