Biography

Robert Clift, who was educated at Bablake School and Nottingham University, won the first of his 75 England caps in 1982 and was a member of the team that won silver medals in the 1986 World Cup and the 1987 European Cup. He also played 52 times for Great Britain, winning a gold medal at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. Clift was a member of the Southgate club when he won his Olympic gold medal but moved to East Grinstead for the 1989 season. A bank official by profession, he played at inside-forward or mid-field.
