Biography

Keith Sinclair attended Calday Grange Grammar School, Wirral, before studying at Manchester University. A wing-half, he played hockey at school and then for the British Universities XI and England Under-23s before winning his first full England cap against Ireland in 1968, making him the first former Calday pupil to win an England international cap.

Sinclair went in to win over 30 England caps and was honoured with the captaincy of the team in the early 1970s. He was a member of the Great Britain team that finished 12th (out of 16) at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, and sixth at München four years later, and in 1973 he represented England at the World Cup in the Netherlands.

After university, Sinclair became a chemical engineer and worked for the Beechams pharmaceutical company in Sussex. He played for, and was captain of, the Tulse Hill HC at the time and was also a county Sussex standard tennis player. Sinclair’s older brother David played for hockey for Chesterfield and Derbyshire.
