Biography

Dr. David Wilman was a university professor who taught agricultural sciences at Aberystwyth University in Wales. Wilman graduated from the University of Leeds in 1956 before working at Cambridge University as a farm demonstrator. From 1969 to 2002 he was a lecturer at Aberystwyth University where he also published more than 100 research papers during his career. Away from teaching he was a keen sportsman who played cricket and field hockey as a student. As a hockey player Wilman was twice selected to represent Team GB at the Olympics, first at the 1964 Tokyo Games, before competing at the 1968 Games in Mexico City. At the latter he scored a late equaliser against East Germany in the final round, forcing the match into extra time, before East Germany scored the winner in the 98th minute of the game. Wilman continued to represent Great Britain in different age groups and was also a decent squash player.
