Forward Werner Rosenbaum played field hockey for HC Wacker München, who were runners-up in the West German Championships in 1952 and 1955. For the German national team he won 43 international caps between 1951-59, including his participation in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where Germany lost to the Netherlands 0-1 in the quarter-final, and the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, when Rosenbaum won a surprise bronze medal after Germany beat Great Britain 3-1 in the third place match. He was also a member of the West German team that won the unofficial European Championships in 1954.
