Biography

Uli Vos played 145 international hockey (field) matches for West Germany from 1966-76. With the West German team he won the 1970 European title and received two bronze medals at the 1973 and 1975 World Championships. In 1976 West Germany won the indoor Europeans. He competed at three Olympic Games, winning gold in 1972, and scoring the deciding goal against Pakistan. The team finished fourth in 1968, losing the bronze medal match against India, 2-1. In 1968 East and West Germany played their only international match in a preliminary round, with West Germany winning 3-2. At Montréal in 1976 the team placed fifth.

Domestically Vos played with Gladbacher HTC, and helped them win the 1966 and 1967 West German national titles. In 2006, he won the World Championships in the ‘Over 60’ class. He was also an avid football (soccer) player who trained with coach Hennes Weisweiler at German Bundesliga soccer club VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 1960s.
