A decided penalty corner specialist, Floris Jan Bovelander quit hockey as the all-time top scorer in the Dutch hockey league - a record that still stands as of 2009. Behind Paul Litjens, he is the second highest scoring Dutch national team player, with 215 goals in 241 international matches between 1985 and 1996. In this period, he won every major title with the Dutch team: the 1996 Olympics, the 1990 World Cup and the 1987 European Championships. During his last tournament, the Atlanta Olympics, crowned his career by scoring twice in the final - both from penalty corners. Bovelander, who won six Dutch titles with HC Bloemendaal, currently runs a company with his brother, organizing field hockey camps for children.
