Leszek Hensler played on the Polish national team for nearly two decades. Between 1975 and 1993, the midfielder collected 219 caps, scoring 26 goals. With the Polish team, he played at three Hockey World Cups (1978, 1982 and 1986), three European Championships (1978, 1983 and 1987) and in the 1980 Olympics. The Poles placed fourth in the heavily devalued 1980 Olympic hockey competition, which saw most top nations boycotting. In domestic competition, he played for three teams, winning league titles with all of them\: Stella Gniezno (1974), Lech Poznań (1977-78, 1984-87) and Grunwald Poznań (1993-94). His nine titles make him one of the most decorated players in Polish hockey history. He remained active in hockey after his playing days, and was involved in coaching many teams, both for indoor and outdoor teams, and for both youths and seniors. He was an assistant coach of the national team when Poland played at the 2000 Olympics.
