Biography

Ana Derșidan-Ene-Pascu was one of Romania’s most prolific and successful fencers during the 1960s and 1970s. She began as a foil fencer when she was 13, and won gold at the 1963 World Junior Championships. In 1972, Pascu became the national foil champion, and between 1971 and 1976, she was part of the Steaua București club that won the national team title six times. Also with the Steaua club, Pascu won the European Champions Cup in three consecutive years.

Pascu made her international début for Romania at the 1961 World University Games in Sofia, Bulgaria, where she won gold in the team event. Over the next 16 years, Pascu made 12 appearances at the World Championships, and was selected to compete at five Olympic Games. At the World Championships, she won a gold, a silver and five bronze medals, along with two bronze medals at the Olympics.

Pascu retired from fencing after the 1976 Montreal Olympics and went to work as a teacher-coach in București during the early 1980s. She became the secretary- general of the Romanian Fencing Federation in 1982, before becoming their executive president in 1994. Pascu also worked for the Fédération Internationale d’Éscrime (FIE) from 1983 to 2021, working in various roles including being on the organizing committee and as their vice-president from 2004.

Pascu was also the vice-president of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee. In 2016, she was awarded with the COSR Golden Collar. Pascu was also bestowed with the Order of Sports Merit, the National Order of Merit, and the Master of Sports.
