Ruth White competed for New York University (NYU) and the Fencers Club of New York. She was US Champion in women’s foil in 1969 and 1972, also winning two medals at the 1971 Pan American Games, an individual silver and team gold. White placed second at the US Nationals in 1970 and third in 1971. She was the first American woman to reach the final round of the World Junior Championships. White was women’s intercollegiate champion in the pre-NCAA era in 1970-72.
White competed at the 1972 Olympics and then entered NYU Medical School. She studied internal medicine and later practiced as an internist in Woodland Hills, California. White was inducted into the NYU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989.
