Paul Kerb was the most successful Austrian foil fencer of the post-World War II era. He was Austrian national foil champion in 1954-56 and 1958, and foil and sabre champion in 1959. Kerb was second in the sabre competition at the 1951 Academic World Championships, and fifth with the Austrian team at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics.
He was also second in both the team and individual competition at the 1953 Academic World Championships in both sabre and foil. From 1950-60 Kerb was a permanent member of the national team, participating in many international matches and tournaments. At the 1960 Rome Olympics the Austrian team came ninth.
