Estevão Molnar was born in Hungary with the name of István Molnár but his family moved to France to escape Nazi persecution and he used the name Etienne Molnar in France. He then emigrated to Brazil on 27 February 1941 where he adopted the name Estevão Molnar and fenced for Brazil. Later, he moved back to France where resumed using the name Etienne until he died.
He had the following podium finishes at major championships: 3rd in the 1951 Pan American Games sabre, 3rd in the 1951 Pan American Games sabre team (with the non-Olympians Virgílio Damazio de Sá, Frederico Taveira Serrão, and Hugler Matt).
